Michael Rodriguez is a theater and film artist currently residing in San Diego, CA. Since receiving two bachelor degrees in Drama and Cinema studies from San Francisco State University in 2007, he has been performing, directing or writing for the stage and screen in one capacity or another. Before leaving San Francisco, Michael performed in Guerrilla Rep’s original play, STRINGS, as a part of the National Queer Arts Festival of 2009. In Washington, D.C., Michael joined the political theater group, the DC Theater Collective, as an ensemble member to produce THE TEA PARTY PROJECT as a part of the 2010 Capital Fringe Fest. He then went on to  collaborate with seven other actors over the course of six months to produce a devised work called THE NIGHTMARE DREAMER. Michael went on to receive an M.A. in Theatre History, Theory and Literature from Indiana University where he wrote his thesis on the development and use of captivity narratives in the drama and theater of United States of the late eighteenth century. He also co-directed an experimental work called King Lear’s Who Wants to be a Beneficiary? While living in Boston, MA, Michael was featured in an award-winning short film called I, OBLIVIOUS; he also played Costard in Wellesley Players’ production of William Shakespeare’s LOVE'S LABOUR'S LOST. Prior to leaving Boston, Michael played Joseph Grand in Praxis Stage's U.S. premiere of Neil Barlett's THE PLAGUE (a stage adaptation of Albert Camus' LE PESTE). Most recently, Michael has begun his collaboration with the German-based theater collective Pandora Pop as a part of the 2018 BLOOM UP residency program in cooperation with the Goethe-Institute.
